Get tips from the Multnomah County Department of Human Services, Emergency Management, Office of Sustainability, and Environmental Health for an empowering and informative workshop to help you prepare for the challenges posed by extreme heat, smoke and other emergencies. Get practical information to help your residents stay safe, as weather extremes become the new normal. Learn what resources are available for residents including utility bill discount and energy programs, DIY cooling kits, and strategies to help during extreme heat or smoke events. Receive useful tips for other natural or human-created disasters, basic emergency management storage, and the best ways to be notified of an emergency.

Content Leaders:

Dr. Renee Curtis, PhD, is a Senior Emergency Manager for Multnomah County Department of County Human Services. Past work in public health, social services, food systems, and sustainability included a decade of multifamily projects. She draws from community resilience research and experience with disasters to help communities, tenants, and vulnerable groups prepare for emergencies and severe weather events. Haley Zilka is an Emergency Manager for Multnomah County Emergency Management. Logistics Division. As Facilities Lead, she finds locations to serve as Disaster Resource Centers during emergencies. During a decade in property management, she supported her communities through disasters like the covid pandemic, heat dome of 2020, winter storms, and power outages. Dan Trifone BSW, MPA,is a public health practitioner with the Multnomah County Health Department. He supports regional and statewide climate and health initiatives and preparedness, with projects related to extreme heat, wildfire smoke, or other climate-driven health risks. John Wasiutynski, MPA is the Multnomah County Office of Sustainability Director. The Office of Sustainability works with County Departments and the community to promote programs and policies that lead to a more equitable, prosperous, and environmentally sound Multnomah County.
