Every month, HR Answers provides programming written specifically for Multifamily NW members. This month's webinar will focus on the ADA - Americans with Disabilities Act, guided by Anna Lee.
This month Anna will lead the discussion providing managers information on how to recognize and appropriately respond to employee requests for accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
What the ADA Requires
• Applies to employers with 15+ employees
• Protects qualified employees with disabilities
• Requires reasonable accommodations unless they cause undue hardship
• Focus is on enabling employees to perform essential job functions
The Interactive Process
An ongoing, collaborative discussion to:
• Understand job duties and limitations
• Identify effective and reasonable accommodation options
• Implement and adjust accommodations as needed
DO: Listen without judgement; maintain confidentiality; follow up and provide interactive discussions.
DON’T: Ignore or delay request for ADA; make assumptions; discourage requests; retaliate or treat employees differently.
