The number one job of a supervisor is to develop their people. Performance Feedback is one of those topics that every supervisor and manager must get comfortable with.  Providing feedback to employees that reinforces what they are doing or if they need to be redirected is an important piece of the “performance partnership”.

 Workplace surveys consistently show that employees crave better information about how they could improve their performance. But most say they don't get it.

A Gallup poll, for example, found that only 26% of employees strongly believe the feedback they receive helps them do their work better. A McKinsey survey of 12,000 managers indicated they consider "candid, insightful feedback critical to career development. So the message is clear, they know it helps. Performance feedback can only be heard if delivered in a way that works for the employee.  In other words, how you communicate the message is the key to success.
