Rebuilding Together Day - 2019

Industry News, Portland/SW Washington,

This year the national Rebuilding Together Day of Service was Saturday, April 27th. Since 2011 Multifamily NW member companies have participated in Rebuilding Together volunteering their time, materials and expertise to complete critical repairs to homes of vulnerable Portlanders.

Rebuilding Together Portland takes applications from dozens of homeowners who are elderly, disabled, families with children, veterans or those who financially struggle to make necessary home repairs that can help keep them in their homes. For 2019, Multifamily NW members took responsibility for the refurbishment of 11 Rebuilding Together homes! Several member companies volunteered on multiple homes, and supplied their own building materials!

“Our members are being good neighbors and giving back to the community by volunteering time, skills, and materials to homeowners that need it,” said Deborah Imse, executive director of Multifamily NW.

Depending on the house and its induvial needs, our volunteer crews took on interior/exterior painting, landscaping and the installation of new flooring, new appliances, new cabinets, new toilets and new sinks. It’s astonishing what these dedicated groups of volunteers can accomplish in a single day!

“It’s great to have Multifamily NW members involved in our event every year because they donate not just time, but skilled labor and even most of the materials. Once they’re there, they go above and beyond and usually fix more things than they planned to. If it needs to be done, they do it,” said Rebuilding Together Executive Director Mike Malone.

Multifamily NW salutes our members’ steadfast efforts of revitalizing these homes and make a serious impact in the stability for their families. Way to go!

This is the 28th annual Portland Rebuild Day. All recipients are owners of the home and are either low income, elderly, disabled, families with children, or veterans. The organization’s goal is to provide safe and healthy homes for everyone. Thanks again to all Multifamily NW member companies and individuals who volunteered and made it such a success!
